All thermionic devices such as CRTs benefit from having their component parts "out gassed". The process usually involves induction heating the metallic components to an elevated temperature whilst under vacuum. This process not only removes finger grease but also trapped oxygen in the surface of the component.

This photograph shows a folded pancake type work coil used with a hand held heat applicator. This type of coil is used in the manufacture of neon signs and can be used in other applications including getter firing, cap sealing, spot curing of adhesives, soft soldering or anywhere a portable heat source is required.

Hand-held heat applicators may be used with equipments with output powers from 1 to 25kW. The unit shown in the photograph is used with powers up to 12kW maximum. A full range of work coils may be accommodated.
